Program Overview
Our physical education curriculum includes a balance of skills, concepts, games, rhythms, gymnastics and dance experiences. Students are encouraged to question, integrate, analyze, communicate and apply cognitive concepts helping them gain a wide multicultural view of the world through physical education learning experiences. It is our hope that through these experiences students will experience success and a sense of acceptance and well-being. Our physical education curriculum is based upon the National Standards set forth by the Society Of Health And Physical Educator and the Howard County Physical Education Essential Curriculum. The aim is to ensure that children become physically educated learners to:
1. Demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
2. Apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
3. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
4. Exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
5. Recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
